Programs of Study

Westchester Community College programs consist of Core Curriculum Requirements (general education courses required to ensure a well-rounded education to students within any program) and Degree Requirements (courses specific to a particular degree). Depending on which type of degree you are seeking, A.A., A.S., or A.A.S, the Core Requirements will vary. Click for more information about our Core Curriculum Requirements .

Associate of Arts

The requirements for the Associate in Arts Degree (A.A.) are equivalent to the first two years at an accredited four-year institution and emphasize the liberal arts and sciences. Graduates typically transfer to baccalaureate-granting institutions.

Associate of Science

The requirements for the Associate in Science Degree (A.S.) are equivalent to the first two years at an accredited four-year institution and balance a professional orientation with the liberal arts & sciences. Graduates typically transfer to baccalaureate-granting institutions.

Associate of Applied Science

The curriculum for the Associate in Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.) prepares graduates for immediate employment within specific technical fields. The requirements combine specific career preparation with a firm foundation in the liberal arts and sciences. Although the A.A.S. is not intended as a transfer degree, graduates in some professions do transfer to baccalaureate-granting institutions.

Certificate

Certificate Programs prepare students for immediate employment in a variety of skilled occupations. College credits earned in certificate programs can often be applied to parallel associate degrees offered at the college. Certificates provide a well-rounded course of study which may include English, mathematics, and science courses, in addition to occupational training.
