POLSC 113 - Introduction to the Middle East

3 credits


The goal of this course is to familiarize with the modern history of the Middle East. Students will learn the histories of all the major nation-states in the region (Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and the rest of the Gulf States). We will trace the emergence of these states to its foundations and emphasize the relationships they had with major European Empires. Finally, the rest of the course will deal with contemporary issues ranging from the role of Islam, the Arab-Israeli Conflict, oil production, and the rise of terrorism.
