HIS 111A - 19th Century U.S. History 3 social science credits
This course explores the history of the United States from 1800 to the Spanish-American-Cuban War of 1898. Students study the growth of American institution, the struggles over slavery, the causes and consequences of the Civil War, and the development of industrialism. Special attention is paid to Western expansion, the handling of the Indian affairs, and the broadening of political participation.
Class Hours: 3 Pre or Corequisites: Student must be prepared to enter ENG 101 - Writing and Research by having completed ENG 92 - Writing for College 2 , ESL 122 - Introduction to Academic Writing 2 , or by having a ESSAY test score of 8 or higher on the placement exam. Or student may have a pre- or corequisite of ENG 101 - Writing and Research or ENG 101H - Writing and Research - Honors .
