CE-ART 2367 - Introduction to the Philosophy of Art


How do artists come up with the signature style that people recognize? Where do artists look for inspiration and how do they use influences in their artwork? In this course, we will discuss these questions and many others in an introduction to the philosophy of art. Artists can be deep thinkers and what seems arbitrary in their work is well thought out. Also included in the course will be why artists choose the subjects they present. Leonardo Da Vinci, Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Modigliani, Picasso, Eugene Delacroix, Andy Warhol and others will be presented. Artworks will be presented in detail along with discussion.
