FIN 200 - Personal Finance

This course introduces the fundamental concepts and basic tools used to manage one’s personal finances effectively. Students learn about the importance of saving and investing towards financial goals including retirement planning, how to set realistic financial goals, the keys to successful long-term investing, the principles of asset allocation and diversification, how to protect oneself from financial fraud, types of financial institutions, how to manage consumer credit including student debt, home mortgage basics, how different types of insurance work, and an introduction to individual taxation.
