This degree program is designed to prepare graduates to sit for the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE), and seek employment as a veterinary technician. In New York State, individuals who complete a two-year program in Veterinary Technology and achieve a passing grade on the VTNE examination are eligible to apply for licensure. Licensed veterinary technologists obtain employment in a variety of employment settings, including veterinary hospitals, clinics and small offices, animal shelters, research laboratories and zoological gardens.

Veterinary Technology is the art and science of using an understanding of basic animal science and behavior to assist the veterinarian in the care of animals. Among the skills students will master are how to conduct a physical examination, perform animal care and nursing, assist with animal surgery and post-operative care, how to perform routine laboratory procedures, how to perform radiographic and dental procedures, and how to communicate with the public and clients both verbally and in writing.

The Veterinary Technology Program is a selective curriculum and requires two years of full-time study. Classes are offered during the day only and the curriculum consists of four semesters and one summer semester. It offers a well-balanced academic and clinical education curriculum. The program runs from September to August. The integration of didactic and clinical learning provides an atmosphere that promotes problem solving and critical thought needed to prepare students for completion of the program. The program has begun the application of national accreditation.
