Humanities is the broadest of the academic disciplines because it is concerned with the whole spectrum of one’s social, intellectual, artistic, and spiritual history. Humanities study reflects many aspects of human aspiration and achievement. Academic subjects commonly included in humanities are literature, modern languages, philosophy, and the visual and performing arts.

One of the major advantages of a humanities program is great flexibility. Students are not only allowed substantial freedom in course selection, but are actually encouraged to explore other academic areas. Students enrolled in the Humanities program may select courses in the arts, English, or modern languages.

The Associate in Arts degree program at Westchester Community College parallels most liberal arts programs in four-year colleges and universities. Most graduates of this degree program transfer to four-year institutions to continue their education. By choosing their courses carefully, most graduates are able to transfer with full credit and complete the bachelor’s degree in two additional years of study.

** Most communications courses do not have prerequisites. All communications courses receive English credit, except broadcasting production courses (i.e., COMM 116 - Radio Production , COMM 119 - Television Production 1 , COMM 121 - Television Production 2 , and all internships) and newspaper production courses (i.e., COMM 108 - Digital News Production ). COMM 101 - Understanding Mass Media and COMM 117 - Radio and Television Announcing will get English credit.
