Program Description
The Energy Systems associate degree program prepares graduates for entry-level positions in energy generation, transmission and distribution. The curriculum was developed in conjunction with the New York Power Authority, Entergy and the Consolidated Edison Company to answer a critical need for trained technicians in the region.
Students will acquire the background and skills required for a technical career in the fields of gas, fossil, nuclear, and hydro-electric power, as well as the appropriate communication, math and science skills that employers seek. Through additional elective courses, students may explore a variety of specialties or focus on one. Career options include: Plant Operators, Chemistry Technician, Radiation Protection Technician, Electrical Maintenance Technician, Instrument & Controls Technician, Mechanical Maintenance Technician, Gas Field Technicians, Systems Protection Control Technicians, and Meter Technicians.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Students will gain an understanding of the structure of the energy industry and current developments, including technological trends.
- Students will acquire the technical skills and core background framework necessary for establishing a career path in the energy industry.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to solve technical problems using critical thinking and troubleshooting methods, and work as a team member.
