A Note about Program Requirements
The requirements listed below are for students entering into this program in Fall 2016. Students who entered the program during a prior semester will find their specific requirements listed in the Catalog under which they entered. Archived Catalogs are accessible through the dropdown menu above. Program Description
The goal of the Networking Certificate is to enable students who do not wish to complete a degree program to acquire the skills necessary to gain employment in the expanding field of building and maintaining computer networks. In addition, upon completion of the four networking courses which are part of the Cisco Networking Academy curriculum, students are prepared to take the Cisco Certified Networking Associate examination. The program focuses on the fundamentals of networking including how to design a local area network and how to install and maintain it. Students become competent in configuring switches and routers for both LAN and Internet implementation. Students also study network management, learn how to design and apply Access Control Lists and apply concepts relating to network security, maintenance, trouble shooting and upgrading of facilities. Basic concepts of computer architecture and design and computer programming are learned, and students acquire a working knowledge of the Linux operating system. Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, a student will: - Demonstrate the ability to design and maintain secure, voice, video, and data networks.
- Demonstrate the ability to implement and configure networked devices.
- Demonstrate the skills necessary to administer and monitor networks.
- Exhibit mastery of problem-solving skills necessary for troubleshooting networks.
