Important Note about Program Requirements

The requirements listed below are for students entering into this program from Fall 2019 to Summer 2020. Students who entered the program during a prior semester will find their specific requirements listed in the Catalog under which they entered. Archived Catalogs are accessible through the dropdown menu above.

Certificates Defined

Certificate programs are designed to provide a mix of theory and practical training leading to immediate employment upon completion. People who pursue certificates might have an advanced degree and typically want to learn new skills and acquire knowledge. Others might enroll in a certificate program to “test the waters,” with an eye toward pursuing an associate’s degree. Credits earned now in a credit-bearing certificate will apply later toward an associate’s degree at Westchester Community College. Click to learn more  about the differences among the award types.

Program Description

This skills-oriented program is designed for students wishing to begin or resume a career in office administration. In as little as two semesters of full-time study, students will develop or update the skills necessary to gain employment in an office environment that is increasingly dependent on computer and communications technologies. Those who are employed full-time during the day can enroll in evening courses on a part-time basis.

Through hands-on instructional activities, students learn to use the software programs and develop the administrative office skills that today’s employers require. Students enrolled in this program have the opportunity to obtain college credit for paid work experience through our Cooperative Education program. Those credits, in addition to all the credits earned for the Certificate, may be applied to an Associate Degree in Office Technologies .

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, a student will:

  1. Demonstrate the computer information processing skills needed for success in office administration.
  2. Demonstrate effective business communications skills.
  3. Demonstrate the office administration skills and knowledge required of office support professionals.
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of the interpersonal skills and professional qualities needed to provide effective customer service.

Minimum Total Credits - 24
