Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree Defined

The purpose of the A.A.S. is to be fully trained for immediate employment upon graduation. Students who opt to continue on to pursue higher levels of education are encouraged to check with the receiving institution regarding transferability of credits. Program Description


A state-of-the-art Computer Aided Design (CAD) lab and fully equipped mechanical laboratory permit the students to combine both the theoretical and practical aspects of the design as well as the manufacturing of a product.

Graduates of our program are employed in well-paying positions throughout the county, state, and nation. They include engineering aides; mechanical and structural designers; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning technicians; quality assurance technicians; service engineers; and computer-assisted drafters.

Because the curriculum combines writing and reading skills with the humanities and social sciences, our graduates are well-rounded individuals who may transfer to a host of four-year institutions offering the Bachelor of Mechanical Technology. By choosing the proper electives, graduates also may transfer to those institutions offering a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering.

Program Learning Outcomes


  1. Students will be able to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  2. Students will be able to design engineering related parts and projects.
  3. Students will be able to analyze engineering designs.
  4. Students will be able to design and construct parts using 3D printing and CNC technology.
  5. Students will be able to review and evaluate designs.
  6. Students will be able to read and interpret technical information.
  7. Students will be able to work as a team.

Program Requirements


General Education Requirements - 24 Credits


Students are required to fulfill a certain number of credits within the specific categories shown below. Where specific courses are not listed within these categories, courses must be selected from the list of SUNY General Education Courses .

Basic Communication (3 credits)


Humanities (3 credits)


American History, Social Sciences, or Western Civilization (3 credits)
