Program Description
The Teaching Assistant certificate provides an opportunity for teaching assistants and other individuals interested in childhood education to begin their higher education in a gradual and supportive manner and to meet the new state and/or federal requirements. For some individuals, this will be the first step in a process for obtaining a baccalaureate degree and teaching certification.
This certificate will prepare students to complete the NY state certification requirements.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, a student will:
- Articulate pedagogical values rooted in a strengths-based perspective of children and families.
- Demonstrate understanding of how to advocate for and partner with children and families of diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrate understanding of education as a mechanism for social change.
Program Map
The academic map below presents the recommended plan of study and will guide you through your program in a timely manner. Click the course abbreviations for full course descriptions. A course may be critical because it is a pre-requisite, requires a minimum grade, or because it is only offered once a year. Missing a critical course may push back your graduation date. Meet with an Academic Counselor or Faculty Advisor to ensure you are on track to complete your program.
Critical Courses should be taken in the order shown to stay on track and graduate on time.
