Program Description
The Associate in Science (AS) degree program in Environmental Science is designed for transfer, paralleling the first two years of course content for an Environmental Science Bachelor’s degree. Coursework focuses on establishing foundations in mathematics, biology, chemistry, and environmental science, providing a broader understanding of topics like sustainability, global climate change, ecosystem protection, natural resource management, and environmental policy and protection. Graduates of the AS program, who then complete their BS/BA degrees in Environmental Science, are qualified for careers in conservation, environmental science, ‘green’ energy, and environmental education.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, a student will:
- Demonstrate the ability to evaluate environmental problems with a scientific perspective.
- Demonstrate the ability to use the scientific method of inquiry and analysis to better understand nature, our impact on it and how applied science, technology and public policies may foster sustainable global development.
- Demonstrate the ability to use science to explain the human impact on the biosphere.

A course may be critical because it is a pre-requisite, requires a minimum grade, or because it is only offered once a year. Missing a critical course may push back your graduation date. Meet with an Academic Counselor or Faculty Advisor to ensure you are on track to complete your program.
Critical Courses should be taken in the order shown to stay on track and graduate on time.
