Program Description
Graduates who receive the Associate in Applied Science degree may find employment as technicians in the fields of civil engineering, architecture, and construction or working with architects, consulting engineers, surveyors, public works engineers, construction companies, materials testing labs, and engineering sales divisions.
Our graduates learn skills in construction methods and materials estimating, management, contracts, codes and specifications, surveying theory and practice, strength of materials, highway theory and design, and properties of materials.
These skills, when combined with successful completion of required courses in communications skills, mathematics, the humanities, and the social sciences, will enable you to pursue immediate employment or transfer to a four-year college to complete your baccalaureate degree.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, a student will:
- Demonstrate the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Demonstrate the ability to solve civil engineering related problems (estimating, structures, environmental).
- Demonstrate the ability to create engineering drawings both manually and using AutoCAD software.
- Demonstrate understanding of the elements of civil engineering design and construction.
- Demonstrate the ability to use the internet as resource for information to help solving problems.
- Demonstrate the ability to function as a member of a civil technology team.
