High School Equivalency (HSE) 24-Credit Program

Program Description

The 24-Credit High School Equivalency (HSE) Program is sponsored by the New York State Department of Education and is designed to assist non-high school graduates earn their HSE Diploma while, at the same time, earning college credits. Credit Requirements

NY State requires that the following courses be completed before applying for the High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma.

6 Credits English
- Any ENG courses ENG 101 or Higher
- COMM 109

3 Credits Mathematics
- MATH courses MATH 116 or Higher
3 Credits Natural Science
- Choose from the areas of BIOL, CHEM, or PHYSC

3 Credits Social Science
- Choose from the areas of ANTHR, ECON, HIS, POLSC, PSYCH, or SOC
3 Credits Humanities
- Any Foreign Language course
- Any PHIL course
- Any ENG course ENG 102 or Higher (unless already counted above)
- Art History or Appreciation (ART 108 , ART 109A , ART 109 )
- Film History/Cinema Studies (FILM 100 , FILM 101 , FILM 102 , FILM 103 , FILM 109 , FILM 113 , FILM 125 , FILM 220 )
- Music Appreciation, History, or Theory (MUSIC 100 , MUSIC 101 , MUSIC 102 , MUSIC 103 , MUSIC 110 , MUSIC 111 )
- Theatre History (THEAT 101 , THEAT 103 )
