Program Description


Westchester Community College provides a diverse range of non-credit courses across various specialized fields. These non-credit courses offer a flexible and accessible way to learn new skills, explore your passions, and enhance your knowledge. Whether you’re looking to boost your career, pursue a hobby, or simply expand your horizons, Westchester Community College has options tailored to your interests.

Expanded Historic Preservation Certificate-140 Hrs


The certificate program serves students and professionals interested in establishing credentials in the area of Historic Preservation in a multitude of job sectors: building trades such as woodworking and stone masonry as well as areas such as historic site management, artifact conservation and more. There is no other certificate program in Historic Preservation offered at a community college in New York State. A total of 140 hours, (field work will be variable), half classwork and half in directed historic preservation fieldwork. One elective is required during the one-year program to fulfill the certificate. Lectures may be taken independently.

TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Certificate Program


There has never been a greater demand for teachers of English to speakers of other languages than now. Both in the United States and worldwide, English is a vital language that allows people to increase their job opportunities, feel empowered and independent, integrate, and learn about other cultures. This intensive, 12-week certificate program provides a comprehensive curriculum which includes practical in-class instruction in Adult ESOL teaching methodologies and techniques, theoretical constructs in Second Language Acquisition, and Linguistics. Additionally, you will observe ESL classes and complete a supervised teaching practicum, ensuring you practice the methods and techniques you learn from the program’s classes.

The program fully prepares you to teach ESL to adults, in-person or remotely, in the U.S. or abroad. Form I-20 is available for TESOL students.
