An HVAC/R training certification program equips aspiring technicians with the essential skills to install, maintain, and troubleshoot heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. The program offers classroom instruction with hands-on simulations, covering topics including electrical theory, system diagnostics, and energy efficiency standards.

Course Offerings


HVAC Program

SUNY Westchester is an authorized training provider for the National Construction Center for Education and Research (NCCER), and our faculty is trained by NCCER. In addition, they are working professionals in the field. www.NCCER.org

The program consists of three modules:

  • MODULE 1: NCCER Core + OSHA 30 + Your Role in the Green Environment
  • MODULE 2: HVAC Level 1
  • MODULE 3: HVAC Level 2  + EPA 608 Certification 

A High School diploma or equivalent is required to register for Module 1. The course is delivered in English.
Participants of the program must take and successfully complete Module 1 prior to being accepted into Modules 2 and 3.

 


Spring 2026

MODULE 1:

Foundations in Construction: NCCER Core

Ready to lay the groundwork for a rewarding career in the trades? Whether you’re drawn to the artistry of craftsmanship or the thrill of building from the ground up, Foundations in Construction – NCCER Core is your gateway to success. Dive deep into the essential skills endorsed by the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER). This course is a pre-requisite to the in-person HVAC program and includes Essential Computer Skills for HVAC Professionals. OSHA 30
OSHA 30 General Industry Training is designed to prepare supervisors and workers for workplace safety and health hazards. It covers topics such as jobsite safety, risk avoidance, workers’ rights, and employer obligations. The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) requires an official OSHA 30 card for employment in construction and other industries. Upon successful completion of the course participants will receive an OSHA 30 card to show employers on the job site. Your Role in the Green Environment

Geared toward entry-level craftworkers, this NCCER course provides pertinent information concerning the green environment, construction practices and building rating systems. This edition reflects LEED v4.1 with emphasis on standards for building design and construction; net zero buildings and intentional construction. MODULE 2:

HVAC Level 1

Introduction to HVACR concepts and practices. Topics include: HVACR basics: Principles, safety, and career opportunities, Trade Mathematics: Problem-solving in HVAC applications, Basic Electricity: Understanding circuits and wiring diagrams, Heating and Cooling Systems: Fundamentals and hands-on training., Piping Practices: Installation and testing techniques, Soldering and Brazing: Safe methods for joining materials. Prerequisites: Foundations in Construction: NCCER Core, OSHA 30, Your Role in the Green Environment. Interview may be required for acceptance.

HVAC Level 2

Advance your HVACR expertise with specialized training: Alternating Current: Motor operations and electrical safety, Refrigerants and Oils: Environmental safety practices, Heat Pumps and Compressors: Installation, service, and troubleshooting, Duct Systems: Design and installation of sheet metal and fiberglass systems., Hydronic Systems: Operation of low-pressure boilers., Commercial Airside Systems: Configuration and controls for commercial HVAC.
