Program Description


The Human Services A.S. program at SUNY Westchester Community College equips students with the foundational skills and knowledge necessary for a career focused on supporting individuals, families, and communities. This program emphasizes social justice, ethical practice, and practical experience in the field through two required internships. Students gain hands-on experience with local agencies, preparing them for transfer into four-year social work or related programs. Graduates are well-prepared for roles in social work, community health, and case management, or for advanced study in human services fields.

Program Learning Outcomes


Upon successful completion of this program, a student will:

  1. Understand the theoretical knowledge base and its application to the mission of social work. 
  2. Apply core values and ethics of the Social Work Profession. 
  3. Demonstrate the entry level social work generalist practice skills necessary for work with individuals, families, and groups. 
  4. Demonstrate preparedness for higher level education in the field of human services.
