Program Description


The Liberal Arts and Sciences: Mathematics and Science A.S. Honors concentration at SUNY Westchester Community College offers high-achieving students the opportunity to engage in advanced coursework in biology, genetics, and general education as part of the college’s Honors College. Participants can also take advantage of co-curricular activities such as summer study abroad at Cambridge University and involvement in the Philosophia Society.

Program Learning Outcomes


Upon successful completion of this program, a student will:

  1. Demonstrate proficiency in mathematics that indicates readiness for calculus.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the scientific process and how it is applied in the natural sciences.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of foundational concepts in math and/or science necessary for:
    A. Transferring seamlessly into four-year programs in mathematics or in one of the Natural Sciences, OR
    B.Applying competitively to four-year nursing or other similar allied health programs with completed prerequisite courses.

The Honors concentration requires a minimum of 24 Honors credits that may be earned in one of two ways. Honors designated courses and traditional courses that allow for additional coursework and guidance from the instructor.

  • Honors designated courses include “H” in the course code (e.g., ENG 101H, PSYCH 101H) and include additional course work than the traditional counterpart. 
  • Honors Option courses do not have a designation in the course code, rather these are traditional courses that offer additional and/or more rigorous course work for students seeking honors credit. These courses are indicated with a note in the course description.

Program Map


The program map is a recommended semester-by-semester schedule of courses based on degree requirements and serve as a general guideline to help students complete their program in two years. Although designed for full-time enrollment, these are easily adaptable for part-time study.
