ENG 200 - American Literature Through the 19th Century 3 credits
American literature from the Pilgrim diaries and Native American legends through the 19th Century poets, philosophers, and writers – among them Emerson, Thoreau, Hawthorne, Melville, Dickinson, Whitman, Douglass, and Twain. This class strives to sharpen students’ powers of analysis and interpretation of literature through critical reading and writing with an emphasis on the juxtaposition of the non canonical and canonized literature: men’s, women’s, Native Americans’, African-Americans’, and Spanish-Americans’.
Prerequisites: ENG 102 - Writing and Literature . Not offered every semester.
