This program is for the student who wishes to enter the field of teaching grades 2 through 6. The program is based on the prescribed course of study universally recognized across the State University of New York to enable transfer to classroom teaching programs at baccalaureate campuses with New York State teacher certification authority.

The Program is designed to provide the student with a solid foundation in the Liberal Arts, while introducing the student to the professional study of education. Students are encouraged to select an appropriate concentration from the following areas: Biology, English, History. The concentration becomes the student’s major upon transfer into a four-year teacher certification program.

To ensure adequate preparation and smooth transfer, students will:

  • Complete Composition and Literature I with a grade of “C” or above before enrolling in INTER 101 Introduction to Schools and Teaching.
  • Be formally admitted into the Teacher Education Transfer Program only after completing two semesters and 25 to 30 credits.
  • Have earned an overall GPA of 2.75 and a 3.0 in both Pedagogical Core courses. This GPA is higher than the college’s standard requirement for graduation and is dictated by certification requirements.
  • Maintain a GPA of 2.75 or above to continue in the Teacher Preparation Transfer Program.

Core Requirement Note(s):

* Also applies to Biology concentration
** All four of these courses are required for History concentration

Concentrations/Majors - Credit Hours: 12-16

Students select one of the following concentrations.

Concentrations/Majors Note(s):

*** Elementary-level foreign language courses are 4 credits each. Intermediate are 3. If a student completes a 4-credit Elementary-level language course, she/he will need NO unrestricted elective to earn the college’s minimum requirement for graduation.

Minimum Total Credits: 64
