Program Description


The Teaching Assistant certificate provides an opportunity for teaching assistants and other individuals interested in childhood education to begin their higher education in a gradual and supportive manner and to meet the new state and/or federal requirements. For some individuals, this will be the first step in a process for obtaining a baccalaureate degree and teaching certification.

Program Learning Outcomes


  1. Students will demonstrate competency in college-level English and Mathematics required to assist teachers in an elementary school setting.
  2. Students will demonstrate sufficient knowledge of general psychology and developmental psychology to be able to understand and work with a wide variety of students in an elementary school setting.
  3. Students will gain understanding of the history, structure and current policy issues in American education, so that they can understand, and work effectively within, an elementary school setting.

Minimum Total Credits - 18
