Program Description
The Electrical Technology Program at Westchester seeks to educate and prepare students for one of the many fields that require skilled technicians to develop, maintain and troubleshoot electronic systems. Our graduates obtain the core knowledge of electrical and electronic concepts and devices as well as skill sets necessary to perform testing and diagnostics, modification, and product prototyping of electronic equipment.
Course work includes DC and AC circuit analysis, semiconductors, analog and digital systems, power and machinery, instrumentation, control theory, and programmable devices.
Skilled Electronic Technicians are required in many fields such as energy, medical, security, plant operations, consumer electronics, transportation, and research and development. They work with engineers to create new products and implementations. Graduates can advance their knowledge by obtaining a Bachelor of Technology degree either immediately or after some work experience.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, a student will:
- Demonstrate the ability to use test equipment and technical diagrams to diagnose malfunctions, modify and adjust equipment, and test or assemble electronic equipment.
- Demonstrate an applied knowledge of electrical theory and electronic components including programmable devices to perform equipment installation, test, and evaluation.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of application software for testing, data collection and transmission, automation, and control applications.
