Program Description

The Associate in Science (AS) degree program in Environmental Studies is designed for transfer, paralleling the first two years of course content for an Environmental Studies Bachelor’s degree. Coursework focuses on establishing foundations in mathematics, biology, environmental science, political science, and social science, providing a broader understanding of topics like sustainability, global climate change, ecosystem protection, natural resource management, and environmental policy and protection. Graduates of the AS program, who then complete their BS/BA degrees in Environmental Studies, are qualified for careers in environmental education and environmental policy, regulation, and law.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, a student will:

Integrate concepts from the natural and social sciences in the analysis of environmental issues.
Demonstrate the ability to use the scientific method of inquiry and analysis to better understand nature, our impact on it and how applied science, technology and public policies may foster sustainable global development.
Explain the human impact on the planet and describe policy options for fostering sustainable decision-making.
