Program Description


The New York State Life and Health Insurance Licensing Program is a comprehensive course designed to prepare individuals for the New York State Life and Health Insurance Licensing Exam. This program, fully licensed and approved by the New York State Department of Financial Services, covers the essential knowledge and skills required to succeed as a life and health insurance professional in New York. The curriculum includes in-depth instruction on insurance principles, policy types, state-specific regulations, ethics, and client needs assessment. Students will gain practical understanding through case studies, real-world scenarios, and practice exams, ensuring they are fully equipped to meet the state’s licensing requirements and excel in their insurance careers.

Pre-licensing Requirements


To qualify for a license, the licensing candidate must meet the following pre-licensing requirements:

  • Complete a NYS Department approved pre-licensing education course totaling not less than 40 hours of instruction for the life, accident & health authority or not less than 20 hours for either life only or accident & health only authority. The Professional Development Center at SUNY Westchester provides a NYS approved course.
  • Pass, within 2 years of applying for the license, licensing exam administered by PSI Services. Visit the Exam Vendor Information page for registration and scheduling instructions. Details will be covered in class.  
  • Path towards NYS License: Once a participant takes this pre licensing class and passes, the exam, you are then you qualified to take the State exam. Upon successful passing of the State Exam, you will then be licensed to sell.

Note: License Renewals, every 2 years - 15 hours of CE.

Times: Saturdays: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm - in person, instructor led, January 11th, 18th, 25th and February 1st
Tuesdays: 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm – in person, instructor led, January 14th, 21st, 28th, and February 4th
