Course Description


Over the last several years, the Healthcare Risk Management profession has rapidly expanded in both scope and complexity. As a result of this expansion, Healthcare Risk Management professionals must now master the technical skills necessary to manage a vast quantity of administrative, clinical and financial information. Contemporary Healthcare Risk Management professionals are called upon to proactively manage information from many areas which address a wide assortment of topics, including but not limited to:

  • Risk Identification and Assessment
  • Patient Safety and Outcomes
  • Comparative Benchmarking
  • e-Prescribing & CPOE

Learning Outcomes / Skillset Acquisition: This course focuses on how to use Microsoft Excel for analyzing information from selected areas found within the Healthcare Risk Management environment. Using a “hands-on” learning format, each participant will master a number of analytical tools within Microsoft Excel, including but not limited to:

  • Report Writing
  • Data Consolidation
  • Pivot Tables
  • VLOOKUP/HLOOKUP
  • Data Filtering
  • Harvesting Data from 3rd Party sources
  • Linking Excel with Power Point
  • Data Validation Techniques
  • What-If Analysis / Data Forecasting
  • Interactive Charting & Graphing

Who will benefit from this course:

Healthcare professionals who are involved in the Risk Management area will benefit from this course. This includes administrators, physicians, nurses, financial managers and members of their support staff.

Prerequisites:

Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Excel or similar software tool is necessary. Participants in this course should be willing to actively engage with their peers in a learning experience which encourages sharing of information so all learners benefit from the collective experience of their colleagues.
