Program Description


The Communications and Media Arts A.A. program at SUNY Westchester Community College offers a strong foundation in communication theory and hands-on media production. Whether you’re drawn to radio, television, or digital content creation, this program prepares you with essential skills in interpersonal communication, media writing, and multimedia production. With access to the college’s radio station, podcast studio, public speaking lab, student newspaper, and television studio, students gain practical experience and transferable skills that will allow you to create industry-standard content, preparing you for further studies or entry-level roles in media and communications fields.

Program Learning Outcomes


Upon successful completion of this program, a student will:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of basic theories and concepts of effective human communication. 
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of basic theories and concepts of effective mass media communication. 
  3. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively through written and oral discourse, across various media and non-media platforms. 
  4. Create and design content for various media platforms, while tailoring content to suit different audiences.
