Program Description


The Computer Programming Certificate at SUNY Westchester Community College is ideal for professionals looking to advance their programming skills or transition into a tech career. This program emphasizes critical thinking, problem analysis, and solution design, providing hands-on experience in widely-used programming languages, data structures, and software development. Through courses in Java, data structures, web programming, and computer architecture, students gain the skills needed to design, test, and implement software applications. This certificate offers a strong foundation for those entering or advancing in the tech field, with practical skills that meet industry demands.

Program Learning Outcomes


Upon successful completion of this program, a student will:

  1. Analyze a computing problem and apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
  2. Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution utilizing programming paradigms.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to define the internal architecture of a computer.

Program Map


The program map is a recommended semester-by-semester schedule of courses based on degree requirements and serve as a general guideline to help students complete their program in two years. Although designed for full-time enrollment, these are easily adaptable for part-time study.
