Program Description


The Computer Science A.S. program at SUNY Westchester Community College offers a comprehensive foundation in the technical and theoretical aspects of computing. Designed for students of all experience levels, this program covers key areas like programming, algorithms, computer architecture, and discrete structures. Through hands-on coursework in modern programming languages and data structures, students develop critical problem-solving skills essential for today’s tech careers. Graduates are well-prepared for entry-level roles in technology or for transfer to four-year programs in Computer Science, where they can continue to build expertise in this fast-evolving field.

Program Learning Outcomes


Upon successful completion of this program, a student will:

  1. Analyze a computing problem and apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
  2. Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution utilizing programming paradigms.

  3. Demonstrate the ability to define the internal architecture of a computer. 
  4. Apply computer science theory and software development fundamentals to produce computing-based solutions.
