Program Description


The Liberal Arts and Sciences: Humanities A.A. with a concentration in Studio Art at SUNY Westchester Community College is designed for students who are passionate about exploring creative expression through art, language, and culture. This flexible program provides a solid foundation in art history, drawing, and design while learning to analyze the cultural significance of art within its historical context and develop your own artistic abilities. Whether you’re preparing for transfer to a four-year institution or pursuing a career in the arts, this degree provides a pathway to professional fields such as teaching, museum work, arts administration, and media.

Program Learning Outcomes


Upon successful completion of the Liberal Arts and Sciences: Humanities degree with a concentration in Art Studio, a graduate will:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the methods and conventions in the field of English or Philosophy and at least one other Humanities discipline.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to develop, research, and document analytical responses to one or more of the following: films, literary, or philosophical texts, works of art, musical compositions or performances, theatrical works.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to produce clear, creative written expression of ideas.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to determine distinctive features of a non-English speaking culture.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of the structure and vocabulary of a language outside of English.
