Program Description


The Addiction Counseling A.A.S. program at SUNY Westchester Community College provides a comprehensive study of addiction’s psychological and biochemical impacts, and focused training in counseling ethics, methods, and case management. As a certified training provider through the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) the program includes the 350 educational hours required for the CASAC (Credentialed Alcohol & Substance Abuse Counselor) certification, reducing the experience requirement by 1,000 hours. With this degree, you’ll be equipped to make a meaningful impact in the field of addiction counseling and support individuals on their path to recovery.

Program Learning Outcomes


Upon successful completion of this program, a student will:

  1. Demonstrate the ability to apply the principles of ethical and effective addiction counseling using organized, clear, and precise written and oral communication skills.

63 credits are required for the degree:

  • General Education - 22 credits
